What is the process after an application is submitted?

Please note we cannot respond to every application.

  1. Our HR team reviews applications to identify qualified candidates.
  2. Qualified candidates are invited to do a telephone screening.
  3. The most qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person interview. Common Sense typically conducts 2 to 3 rounds of in-person interviews in the hiring process.
  4. References will be solicited from our final candidates. (Please note that some positions will require additional background checks.)
  5. A formal written job offer will be made to our top final candidate.

Chief of Staff to the Founder and CEO- San Francisco, Ca.?

We are looking for a chief of staff to directly support our founder and CEO, Jim Steyer. You will work across multiple levels of Common Sense to drive key organization-wide projects and keep the CEO up to date with necessary updates. We are looking for a high level of autonomy, creative thinking, and discretion to advance priorities and effectively leverage the CEO's time. The chief of staff is a highly visible role that partners with Jim and our executive leadership team to foster communication across the entire organization.

Director of Media Relations- San Francisco, Ca.?

The director of media relations will report to the VP of communications and direct the strategy and design of public messages that positively reflect the image of Common Sense Media. You will be responsible for ensuring that Common Sense Media's external brand content is consistent, well-timed, and newsworthy. Additionally, you will work directly with the organization's external PR personnel to proactively pitch, respond, and position Common Sense Media.?

Executive Assistant, Office of the CEO- (temp to hire) San Francisco, Ca

We are seeking a top-notch executive assistant skilled at communicating with senior executives, funders, and various other high-profile people to support our CEO and to join the office of the CEO. Resourceful and astute, the ideal candidate is tech-savvy and possesses excellent people and writing skills.

Media Reviewer- San Francisco, Ca. (remote available)

The equity-focused media reviewer will use their subject-matter expertise to consume, evaluate, and write about entertainment content for parents through a child-development and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens. With excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, this contract role will produce anywhere from one to 10 new reviews per month, with a special focus on a specific kind of media (books, movies, TV shows, apps, video games). Work may also include updates to older reviews. We are committed to hiring reviewers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
